Pacific Rim Uprising – review

The sequel to giant robots vs giant monsters movie from 2013 that nobody was overly bothered with but exists because China really liked it.

The original cast have not returned for Pacific Rim Uprising, which as that cast included Charlie Hunnam it is no great loss. The lead character this time is played by John Boyega, he gets to use his real accent and thanks to his charming performance he carries the pretty obvious and predicable plot. It is a shame that the best character from the first movie, Mako Mori gets so short changed here.

The opening scene involving a home made Jaeger was good and keeps you watching, even if the audience just ends up waiting for the next action scene, but Jaegers with plasma swords and laser whips are definitely in the plus column. , even if the rest is forgettable.
