Its over 70 years old but its still got it. I could watch it once a week and not get bored.
Its influence is everywhere.
There’s all the quotes:
We’re not in Kansas anymore, I’ll get you and your little dog too, there’s no place like home, if I only had a brain, I’m melting.
The references: Munchkins, Friend of Dorothy, ruby slippers, flying monkeys. We know what these thing are because of The Wizard of Oz.
The movie references, redos, sequels and spin-offs.
David Lynch loves tWoO, his most straightforward movie Wild at Heart being the most overt.
Oh yeah, lets not mention this one …
Eva Cassidy can thank her long second life to somewhere over the rainbow.
The musical Wicked and the book(s) it is based on.
Stephen King loves tWoO, especially in the Dark Tower series, book 4 Wizard and Glass.
One of my favourite comic books, Y The Last Man was influenced by it.
Its not about where you’re going, its about the journey.
The influences are instantly recognisable and there are new references all the time.
There is even another spin-off coming soon
So I guess I’m not the only one that thinks this?
