The Wizard of Oz – Most Influential Film Ever?

wizard-of-oz-posters2Its over 70 years old but its still got it. I could watch it once a week and not get bored.

Its influence is everywhere.

There’s all the quotes:

We’re not in Kansas anymore, I’ll get you and your little dog too, there’s no place like home, if I only had a brain, I’m melting.

The references: Munchkins, Friend of Dorothy, ruby slippers, flying monkeys. We know what these thing are because of The Wizard of Oz.

The  movie references, redos, sequels and spin-offs.

One of my favourite comic books, Y The Last Man was influenced by it.

Y-The_Last_Man_23Its not about where you’re going, its about the journey.y-the-last-man_wizard

The influences are instantly recognisable and there are new references all the time.

There is even another spin-off coming soon

So I guess I’m not the only one that thinks this?
